摘要This talk first discusses what learning means, requires and explains the various involved processes from a brain-like point of view. Here, the focus is set on the modular segregation during neurodevelopment, the forming of generalisations and abstractions, the process of forgetting information as well as learning frequent sequences. Second, the talk will show that these intertwined processes can be efficiently modelled and technically realised by appropriately designed algorithms for the context of natural language processing. Their usage is of especially great benefit when it comes to building multimodal text processing applications that need to topically classify and cluster text documents as well as to provide relevant search words in the context of information retrieval. Furthermore, their applicability is confirmed by numerous experimental results that will be presented. It will be explained how the acquisition and classification of textual information can be carried out in a single processing step which renders the usually needed training phase of classic machine learning algorithms unnecessary. Last but not least, two application examples will eb discussed: the WebEngine, the first decentralised, fully integrated search engine, and a new approach for a medical recommender (diagnosis) system.

主讲人简介:

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Herwig Unger got his PhD with a work on Petri Net transformation in 1994 from the Technical University of Ilmenau and his habilitation with a work on large distributed systems from the University of Rostock in 2000. Since 2006, he is a full professor at the FernUniversität in Hagen and the head of the Chair of Communication Networks. His research interests are in self-organization, adaptive and learning systems, Internet algorithms and simulation systems.
